Run the 1/128-acre catch test
Walk a measured course at your normal spraying pace while catching output from one nozzle into a graduated container marked in ounces. Because 1 gallon is 128 fluid ounces and 1/128 of an acre is 340.3 square feet, a course sized so its area equals 1/128 acre makes the ounces you catch equal your gallons per acre directly, no further math.
- Measure your spray swath (band) width in feet, the width of ground one pass actually wets.
- Compute the course length: 340.3 divided by the swath width in feet.
- Walk that course at your normal spraying pace and pace, spraying water, while catching the nozzle's output the whole way in a graduated ounce container.
- Read the ounces caught. That number is your output rate in gallons per acre (GPA).
