Pesticide applicator license requirements in Rhode Island

Private applicator

Rhode Island’s private applicator certification covers farmers applying restricted-use pesticides to their own or a leased agricultural operation. Recertification runs on a 5-year cycle and requires 6 recertification credit hours submitted with the renewal. Commercial applicator

A commercial applicator in Rhode Island passes the Core exam plus the exam for each pest control category worked, covering agricultural, ornamental and turf, right-of-way, aquatic, structural, and public health pest control. Commercial applicators need 8 recertification credit hours per 5-year period, more than the private track’s 6-hour requirement.

Renewal and continuing education
