Pesticide applicator license requirements in Oregon

Private applicator

Oregon’s Private Pesticide Applicator license covers farmers applying restricted-use pesticides to land they own or lease. It costs $25 for a 5-year term, the least expensive license type ODA offers.

Commercial applicator and trainee

A Commercial Pesticide Operator license is $90/year, with the exact fee scaling by the number of major categories held. A Pesticide Trainee license, $50/year, lets a new applicator work under a licensed operator’s supervision while completing category training. Categories cover the standard national structure plus Oregon-specific ones such as Forest Land Pest Control (Category 5) for commercial forestry and timber work and Right-of-Way Pest Control (Category 7).

Renewal and continuing education

Oregon licenses recertify on a 5-year cycle. The Oregon Pest Control Association, drawing on ODA’s own recertification program, states the requirement as 40 total continuing-education credits across the period, with a maximum of 15 credits countable in any single year, so an applicator cannot front-load the entire requirement into one or two years.

Reciprocity

ODA does not publish a standing reciprocity table online. An applicator relocating to Oregon should contact the Pesticides Program directly to confirm whether an existing out-of-state certification is accepted.
