Pesticide applicator license requirements in Oklahoma

Private applicator

Oklahoma’s private applicator credential is for farmers, ranchers, and growers using restricted-use pesticides on land they own or rent. The exam costs $65, and renewal is a flat $20. Private applicators recertify on Oklahoma’s shared 5-year schedule.

Commercial applicator

Commercial applicators, defined as anyone applying pesticides for hire or compensation, choose from 14 classified categories covering agricultural, ornamental and turf, structural, public health, and related work. A commercial business license costs $100 per category, capped at $500 a year; a noncommercial license (for someone applying pesticides as part of a non-pest-control job) costs $50 per category, capped at $250 a year. The combined exam, covering core, category, and service technician content, is $95.

Renewal and continuing education

Oklahoma runs recertification on a shared 5-year block by category rather than an individual applicator’s own anniversary date: everyone certified in a given category in a given cycle recertifies together, either by retesting or by earning CEUs. ODAFF excludes the year an applicator most recently certified when totaling CEUs toward the next cycle.

Reciprocity

Oklahoma recognizes certifications from applicators already certified in another state through reciprocal certification, priced at $100 per category with no retest required. CEUs already earned in a reciprocating state may count toward Oklahoma’s recertification standard if they meet ODAFF’s criteria.
